To and from the airport by car

Dortmund Airport is located on the eastern edge of the Ruhr area and is quickly and easily accessible from all directions via the national road network. It is found very close to the A 40 (B 1) and the A 44. For those travelling from the airport by car or taxi, there is a loading/unloading area located directly at the terminal (on both the arrivals and departures level). This leaves only mere metres to be coped with.

Further information concerning arrival by car can be found here.

By bus

The direct bus connection from Dortmund main stations (the AirportExpress) and from Holzwickede station (the AirportShuttle) enabled quick and easy access by public transport. All shuttle buses are fitted with low floor systems and thus are easily accessible to wheelchair users. They stop directly in front of the terminal. Detailed information about arrival by public transport can be found in the current flight schedule or on our website.

Further information concerning arrival by public transport as well as the bus schedule can be found here.

Transport services for the disabled

For passengers with physical disabilities, the possibility exists to book disabled transport services provided by the City of Dortmund / DEW21 via the Dortmund Airport Travel assistance service (PRM). This service will transport you and your baggage to the airport on the day of departure and back home when you land once more. This additional service carries a charge. More detailed information and pricing can be found at Travel assistance Service (PRM).

Further information can be found on the DEW21 website.

Parking

All car parks are provided with parking spaces suitable for the disabled. Car park P1 is located directly next to the terminal building and is thus the ideal way for those with physical disabilities to reach the airport unhindered.

Please note that pickup by the Travel Assistance service (PRM) can only take place from car park 1 (Level 1)!

Reductions

Passengers with disabilities can park free of charge at Dortmund Airport by using the marked spaces in car parks P1 and P2.   A prerequisite for the use of these spaces is a severe disability ID with the disability code "aG" (extreme walking disability), "B1" (blind), "H" (dependent) or "B" (constant supervision required)

Important: the free exit ticket will only be issued on the day of return at the information desk – you must present your air ticket in order to receive this. Please note that reimbursement at a later date is not possible.

In the Terminal

All parts of the terminal are easily accessible. Shops and Restaurants are located on the ground floor. Lifts connect all levels. Disabled toilets can be found in both the open areas of the terminal and beyond the security control point. Please take note of the appropriate signposting. Should you have a problem finding your way, please turn to Airport information on the departure level (level 1) or to the Travel assistance service (PRM) on the arrivals level (level 0).

Wheelchair service

If you are travelling with your own wheelchair or walking aid, you may have to hand over these items as baggage at the Check-in counter. If this should be the case, the airport will provide you with a wheelchair free of charge, which you can use right up until boarding. Wheelchairs and walking aids are generally transported free of charge by airlines. Special regulations apply to battery powered wheelchairs.   Information about these rules is available from your airline.

A overview of contacts for all airlines at Dortmund Airport can be found here.
